University of Maine at Fort Kent Assistant Professor of Foundations of Education and Social Science, Dr. Vladimir Suchan, presented a paper, “Empire as Representation: A Platonic Critique,” at the New England Political Science Association Conference held in Providence, Rhode Island, last month.
More than 50 awards and scholarships were presented to deserving University of Maine at Fort Kent students at the senior class banquet and awards convocation, on Friday, May 9, in the UMFK Sports Center.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent will once again offer a Nursing Discovery Camp this summer. The camp is co-sponsored by Northern Maine Medical Center and Acadia Health Education Coalition & Office of Rural Health and Primary Care, along with the UMFK Nursing Program and Academic Outreach Office.
The program is intended primarily for students entering their junior and senior years, although sophomores also may apply. Students interested in any aspect of the nursing profession are welcome. The cost is $200, which includes materials, meals and lodging. For scholarship information see the internet link below.
Two separate programs will be offered. The first session will run from Monday, June 23 to Thursday, June 26 and the second session will run from Monday, July 7 to Thursday, July 10.
The University of Maine at Fort Kent honored 22 members of its faculty and staff for their service to the campus community at a recent campus luncheon. Special awards were given to employees who have been at UMFK for five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty years and forty years of service.
President Dr. Richard W. Cost presented the honors following touching and humorous tributes to honorees by fellow faculty and staff.
Two University's employees have retired and were also recognized: Charles Closser, Jr. after 33 years of service and Sharon Johnson, after 20 years of service.
Two hundred ninety seven students received degrees at the 126th commencement exercises at the University of Maine at Fort Kent this past weekend.
In addition to students from the United States and Canada, there will be graduates from Spain, Vietnam, Lithuania and India. And among the graduates are three mother/child pairings from right here in the St. John Valley.
