Computer Labs

Saving Your Work

To provide UMFK students with the best computing experience the UMFK IT department has installed a product called DeepFreeze on all lab computers.  This is a product that wipes the computer clean every time it is restarted or shut down.  Because of this product it is extremely important that you do not save your work directly on the computers’ hard drive.  All UMFK students have their own personal storage space on the network called the H Drive. You can save all of your work on your H drive, just like you would any other drive on a computer. And you can access it from any computer on campus. Your H Drive is secure in that only you and the Network Administrator have access to it.  You can also access these personal files from your own computer at home.  We have provided a tutorial that explains how you can set up your personal computer to access your H drive files remotely.

All lab computers also have USB ports available for you to use if you have purchased your own USB Flash Drive.  A flash drive is another convenient and portable way to save and transport your files.
