Exit Counseling

As a student Stafford loan borrower and/or a Perkins Loan borrower, who drops below 6.0 credit hours (per semester) OR leaves UMFK, you are required to complete the appropriate Exit Counseling session(s). If you have borrowed from both loan programs, two separate Exit sessions will be required, i.e., a Stafford and a Perkins.

A "Hold" will be placed on your UMFK student account until the required Exit session(s) is/are completed successfully . A "Hold" on a student's account will prevent a student from acquiring an official academic transcript, receiving their diploma, and for registering for classes at any University of Maine campus, etc.

Once the required Exit session(s) are completed, appropriate parties will be notified electronically.

  • Stafford Loan Exit questions should be addressed to the UMFK Financial Aid Office at 207-834-7606 or email umfkaid@maine.edu.
  • Perkins Loan Exit questions should be addressed to the UMS Loan Processing Center at 207-561-3444, 1-800-308-6148, or email Jolynn@maine.edu or mjamison@maine.edu.

If you are seeking additional loan information, links are available at the end of each of the loan sessions.
