The Bank of America (BAC) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) have joined forces to form a unique three-year partnership to develop a nationwide strategy to combat identity crime and provide consumer protection. This strategy will encompass the critical responsibilities of law enforcement, the private sector, and the public. One vehicle to accomplish this strategy is the Website www.IDSafety.org which is designed to educate consumers and law enforcement on identity crime.

Students enrolled in the PSA and CRJ programs at UMFK will have the first hand opportunity to experience living in Rural America. They will also be exposed to a curriculum, which has been specifically developed for those individuals who are seeking a leadership and administrative career in what has been called "Small Town America".
UMFK's unique location in the St. John River Valley (on the Canadian border) in Aroostook County provides the students with a wonderful four season experience with an emphasis on the entire range of outdoor activities including, but not limited to: hiking, cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, hunting and fishing plus extensive snowmobile, ATV trails and also is the location of the Maine Winter Sports Center which has held World Class Biathlon events.
The events of terrorist attacks and other severe natural disasters have changed our view of the world and sharpened our focus on what's important in life. More and more people are focusing on careers in public service and many with an emphasis in Public Safety. Safe guarding our homeland and local communities has taken center stage and with it comes an ever-increasing need for well-educated individuals to fill new positions. Today, as never before in Rural America, community leaders are looking for individuals who not only know their craft, but also can manage day-to-day operations within their organization. In response, UMFK is offering this innovative degree program, which is aimed at filling this void for Rural Public Safety Administrators.
What makes UMFK's Bachelor of Science Degree in Rural Public Safety Administration (PSA) so special is its versatility. It's geared not only to undergrads, but also to those already holding a degree or currently working in a public safety capacity.
For undergrads interested in a PSA degree, there are several avenues of study open to you.
If you hold a 2-year degree an individualized curriculum will be provided for you. If you are already working as a public safety professional, PSA coursework offers you a flexible way to upgrade your existing knowledge and create opportunities for advancement within your workplace. Our academic advisors will review your records to determine if your credentials meet the credit requirements.
To make our PSA and CRJ programs more accessible the focus on distant learning is evolving to accomodate our student body.
Upon graduation, depending upon your prior work experiences, you will be ready for any number of positions within local, county, state or federal government.
