Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Nursing Honor Society supports the Division of Nursing in its traditions of leadership and excellence in education, research, practice, and community service. Through the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award, the honor society acknowledges those alumni whose involvement and leadership reflects this excellence. Each year, the UMFK, Division of Nursing sponsors one Distinguished Alumna/us Award to honor notable nursing alumni. All UMFK Nursing Honor Society members and nursing students are petitioned to submit nominations from which the UMFK Executive Committee makes the final selection.

Call for Nominations

The UMFK Nursing Honor Society would welcome your suggestions for nominees for the Alumna/us Award. The actual award is made at the Senior Convocation Ceremony. As you submit names for consideration, please include a brief statement summarizing why you believe the nominee should receive this honor.

An alumna/us will be selected based on the following criteria for candidates:

  1. Alumna/us of the UMFK Division of Nursing
  2. Involvement in some phase of nursing, health care, or has made noteworthy contributions in other fields of endeavor
  3. Outstanding leadership/achievement in nursing and/or health care characterized by noteworthy contributions in any one or more of the following areas:
    • clinical expertise
    • administration
    • education
    • scholarship
    • consulting
    • professional leadership
    • community service
    • entrepreneurial endeavors
    • public relations/service
    • humanitarian activities
    • nursing research
    • politics

  5. Demonstrates any of the following qualities:
    • compassion
    • creativity
    • empowerment
    • excellence
    • innovation
    • leadership
    • mentorship
