French Scholarships

Students who come to the University of Maine at Fort Kent to major in French may be eligible for a number of scholarships specific to the study of French.

French Scholarship - Carrefour des francophones d'Amérique
Description BOURSES DE RECHERCHE Le AVIS DE CONCOURS ! Conseil de la vie française en Amérique (CVFA) est heureux d'annoncer le lancement de son sixième concours (année 2006/2007) pour l'octroi de 5 bourses d'une valeur de $1,000.00, chacune, offertes à des étudiants de 2ème cycle et portant sur la problématique de vivre en français en Amérique du nord.

Les projets doivent être soumis au plus tard le 30 novembre 2006.

Ces bourses visent à stimuler l'intérêt des étudiantes et étudiants pour la recherche touchant la vitalité des communautés de langue et de culture françaises en Amérique du nord. Les objectifs sont de:

  • susciter une meilleure compréhension de la problématique de vivre en français en Amérique du nord ;
  • favoriser les communications entre les différentes communautés;
  • fournir des pistes d'exploration en vue de recherches ultérieures et du développement de ces communautés et
  • collaborer avec le CVFA à l'identification des enjeux majeurs de la francophonie nord-américaine.

Hallee, Joseph F. Scholarship (UMFK)

Description: This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Professor in French, Joseph F. Hallee, who served the University of Maine at Fort Kent with distinction for sixteen years. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a first-time student electing to major in French. Preference will be given to graduates of secondary schools in the St. John Valley.

Morin, Richard I. Scholarship Fund (UMFK)

Description: Established at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, this scholarship honors Richard I. Morin. Mr. Morin served the University of Maine System with distinction as a member of the Board of Trustees from December 7, 1979 to September 15, 1988 and was elected as its President in 1987-1988. He dedicated himself to and worked tirelessly for improving and promoting the quality of higher education in the state of Maine, and his leadership reflects the highest ideals of service. Scholarship funds will be used to provide assistance to a student (or students) attending or planning to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Preference will be given to students who are St. John Valley High School graduates and who have demonstrated scholastic excellence and financial need.

Violette, Elmer H. & Marcella B. Scholarship Fund (UMFK)

Description: The Elmer H. and Marcella B. Violette Scholarship Fund was established at the University of Maine at Fort Kent on behalf of the UMFK Foundation in the year 2002 with a gift from Marcella B. Violette. The fund is established in recognition of the contributions and importance of Elmer H. and Marcella B. Violette to the education and way of life of the people in the St. John Valley. Income from the fund shall be used to provide scholarship assistance for a University of Maine at Fort Kent student based on academic standing and financial need. Preference shall be given to residents of the St. John Valley and who are engaged in the study of French or Acadian Culture or Forestry/Environmental Studies. The scholarship shall be renewable annually contingent upon the recipient maintaining a good academic standing and successful completion of each semester.
