Two hundred ninety seven students received degrees at the 126th commencement exercises at the University of Maine at Fort Kent this past weekend.
In addition to students from the United States and Canada, there will be graduates from Spain, Vietnam, Lithuania and India. And among the graduates are three mother/child pairings from right here in the St. John Valley.

University President Dr. Richard W. Cost presided over the ceremony that conferred 267 bachelor and 31 associate degrees.
UMFK students from Professor Katharine Harrington’s Teaching of French course recently completed a month-long French after school program "Fun with the French Language" at Fort Kent Elementary School.
Four individuals from differing eras will be inducted as part of the first class of the University of Maine at Fort Kent Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Nowland Hall on Saturday, April 19 on the UMFK campus. Coach/Administrator Lowell “Ozzie” Osgood, Athlete/Coach Wolf-Dieter Koch, and Coach Larry Murphy all will be inducted into the Hall, along with legendary UMFK coach, Floyd “Red” Powell, who enters the Hall as a charter member. Powell was inducted into an earlier, short-lived, UMFK athletic hall of fame during the 1980s.
Officials from the University of Maine at Fort Kent today announced that the University has received a $20,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation in support of the St. John Valley College Community Project; an educational life span-approach to college readiness.
